It was eleven o’clock on Friday morning when Jaylen and I had our first conversation.

After a few minutes of describing his business and goals, he asked, “Mark, I would love to learn how to control how many placements I make each month. Can you help me with that?”

I said, “No.”

And before I could say why, he asked, “I thought you were a business coach?”

I replied, “Yes, Jaylen, I am. We can control our mindset, motion, and mastering skills (quality). But we cannot control outcomes. We all know that we can control what we do each day, but have you ever thought about how much control we have over our outcomes? “

Instead, let’s focus on what we can control. We may not be able to dictate the outcome of every situation, but we can choose how we approach it and the level of effort we put in.

Jaylen then asked, “What can you help me control?”

This what I what I said: “We work on implementing best practices, accountability, and looking at different possibilities. And now, a tool, PRSTO, helps to get you in front of candidates and clients faster, free up your time from repetitive tasks, and spend more time talking with people to make more placements. All of these we control. These lead to better results more often.”

For example, this how I start my business day. Before I look at email, I say my affirmations aloud and look at my vision book.
