It was February 5, 2015, and I was getting ready for a client meeting.
And that’s the day I got to make a new friend. Amro shared his and his company’s values with me. I also learned that he was a three-time swimming Olympian, and what he was looking for in an operations manager.
I said, “Amro, I can help you”.
In about 5 minutes I shared with him my journey, my company’s values, our process, and prior success in helping others like him.
And I could see Amro get excited and he said, “Mark I’m happy to engage you. I’m happy to give you a retainer. There’s one thing I need to tell you”.
My eyebrows raised. I looked him square in the eyes and said “What?”
He said “This is very important” as I nodded my head.
“I need people with gas”.
I smiled and started to laugh.
He said “not that kind of gas. I mean Give A Sh*t.”
He continued, “Your job is to explain to me why the people that you present have G.A.S.”
I again nodded and what he explained reminded me of something practiced as a Vice President of Sales or CEO.
“Mark, do you know why? It’s deeper than surface cultural fit. I can teach skills, and I can coach people to accomplish things that they did not think were possible. The difference is that people with good hearts and good minds are open and willing to get better and to try new things and sometimes fail but to keep trying. I don’t do the same things as my competitors. We’re open to trying new things, but we will not sacrifice quality to deliver a subpar product to our clients. That’s why we need people with Give A Sh*t. People with G.A.S will overcome obstacles to be successful”.
I knew what was ultimately important to him. In six weeks, his new Operations Manager started. And in nine months, Amro hired three senior level professions with my help.
My thoughts for you are to find and work with candidates who have G.A.S. for all your searches. Your clients will love you. This is one of the nine strategies to have a very successful recruiting or staffing business.

Thanks for reading.
Until next week,
