My wife and I arrived at our daughter and son-in-law’s house at three o’clock.

We left the hospital and were waiting for them to arrive with the new addition to our family.

As nothing moves too quickly in a hospital, we thought that they would get discharged and be home in about an hour.

We did what we thought we should do: got  the house in order and did some “light cleaning”.

After an hour of playing housekeeper, I was ready to be done.

But our children were not back.

I picked up my phone and it was four o’clock . I saw that I missed a text from my client, Sarah – “Do you have time for a quick conversation?”

And after a quick text exchange we were on the video.

Sarah’s eyes were red. I could tell by her body language that she was pissed off.

A recruiter pulled a contractor out of one client into another.

And then the first client called her and asked if her team pulled the contractor.

She was not aware at the moment.

Sarah called Steve into her office. And in a few minutes Sarah had all the details.

And then Sarah and I were talking.

We developed a plan.

First, a call to the first client. Sarah would replace the contractor and not bill for the first week.

Second, a call to the second client. Again, Sarah would replace the contractor and not bill for the week.

Third, Steve, who was with the company for three years, was put on a probationary period with no opportunity to earn bonuses or commission for three months and complete an ethics class.

Fourth, the contractor was also put on a do not call/use list.

Fifth, call me back after.

With a plan in hand, she took care of the damage.

In forty-five minutes, she called back.

We talked through each of the conversations.

Both clients were very appreciative of the transparency and willingness for Sarah to do the right thing.

Steve was remorseful and was very happy that he was not fired on the spot.

Sarah was relieved.

A few minutes later, what a sight! Our three-day-old granddaughter was being carried into her house for the first time.

I can’t believe where the time has gone. It feels like yesterday when we brought our children home from the hospital.

Raising children or running a business is work.

Sometimes we face adversity.

Sometimes we get to celebrate.

Thank you for letting me share my story with you. I would love to hear your story. Please reply back or click here to schedule a meet and greet call.

Until next week,

Mark
